1967 Samuel Paul’s “The Camille”

I just finished renovating this 1967 Mid Century Modern home designed by architect Samuel Paul. It was completely original, down to the carpeting! A large amount of the original finishings have been restored but modern upgrades were added where convenient. Funny, being a Creative can take you down paths you never expected!

Identity Guidelines For An Iconic Brand

Art directed and styled for American Greetings, this program was a comprehensive redesign of the iconic brand. All specifications and legal requirements were articulated in the “Packaging Style Guide” to be used by designers and brand stakeholders to provide consistency for the new brand look at all touch-points.

Clean, clear and simple photography highlights the beauty of the product with little to no visual distraction.

Ornament packaging with an elegant touch.

The Heirloom premier ornament collection engages the consumer and elevates the brand to a new level in the retail environment with its elegant touches of silver and gold hot stamp, touches of bright red as an added accent and a matte finish all on a
finely milled ultra-white paperboard.

Alternatively, the classic Heirloom line packaging utilizes finishes of metallic ink, overprinting spot color covered in a semi-gloss varnish that brings the entire Heirloom brand to a new level of elegance.

A twist on the traditional wrap.

How do you package gift wrap with an inflatable topper?
This packaging required the roll wrap product to be shown, house the inflatable topper, and the packaging to hang and show the product in use. A fun graphic approach to a fun product!

A selection of problems solved through structural engineering.

With the product smaller than a quarter in size, the objective was to give the tassels presence, an impression of value and clearly state usage all at a lower packaging cost.

ABOVE: Protecting a fragile product, allowing movement (the bow swings back and forth), packaging that doesn’t hinder the sound (holes in lid) and allowing the consumer to “try me”, this PET packaging meets all requirements!

BELOW: This product required packaging that could hang up to 5 units on a single hook at retail without causing creases in the product. It also required a window for the consumer to view a portion of the decal (full image on back) all with an overall emphasis on the Wink brand.

A landmark wall art installation.

Art directing a team of 6 artists, I crafted and installed this landmark art installation. Pieces of this installation are “found” items derived from the “original” American Greetings building, bringing a personal touch and a nostalgic feel. Each piece was uniquely crafted using tools such as torches, chisels and traditional artist tools. Together in unison, this landmark installation reflects the mid century modern design of their new world headquarters.

A unique interpretation of a classic artform.

Most often when we hear the word “Tiki” we think of carved wooden statues with piercing eyes and a menacing scowl. Some statues wear expressions of great joy or spiritual balance, while others may look more troubled or sad. The history of tiki culture dates back to ancient Polynesia. Such carvings were first discovered in Polynesia, and tiki carvings are said to represent a Polynesian God. They’re an integral part of South Pacific mythology, culture and history.

Carved from oak and queen palm (two very different types of wood) these tikis have more personality and less dread to represent the fun times this art style brought to the U.S. right after ww2 and beyond.

A uniquely Polynesian greeting card.

I created this card line exclusively for Target which was featured on their main endcap.
I was the planner, Illustrator and production artist for the Tikichain line featuring foam keychain attachments with a flourescent spot color.

Guitarmania

GuitarMania® is a Greater Cleveland community public art project that has raised more than $2 million for its two benefiting charities – United Way of Greater Cleveland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s education activities. The project consists of 10-ft-tall guitars creatively transformed into works of art by local artists and national celebrities.

Consisting of an oak handle and aluminum ferrule, the brush hairs are a combination of string with fiberglas. The base of the guitar’s dimensional elements are fiberglas painted with airbrush all finished with a automotive clearcoat.

Self Promotion

Focusing on the fearful moment the cork is to be let loose from the bottle, this illustration captures the tension from the unknown direction this cork will travel. Hand drawn and finished in Illustrator, this card is a tri-fold New Years card designed to promote one of my illustration techniques.

I love the “Mid Century/ 1990’s Nickelodeon” feel this Illustration conveys. The limited color also is reminiscent of the early 90’s illustration styles.
